Description:
Small, short-legged stint with broad white sides to tail and rump. In flight, shows white sides to tail. Legs yellowish. In all plumages, lacks mantle and is usually rather uniform, with complete breast-band and indistinct supercilium. Adult breeding has irregular dark markings on upperparts.
Distribution:
Common passage migrant through all the districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, mainly central areas. Usually found near wetlands; including marshes, lakes, river banks, boggy areas and grasslands. From lowlands up to 3000m during passage migration.
Behavior:
Forages by pecking prey from surface, rarely probes. Detects prey by sight. Gregarious, in small to large flocks. Diet primarily insects and their larvae, especially beetles and Diptera, occasionally plant material; on coast, mainly annelids, crustaceans and small molluscs.
